Cinco Ranch

Cinco Ranch is a planned community located approximately twenty-five miles west of Houston and ten miles north of Richmond in northern Fort Bend County.

Before the development began in the mid-1980s, the Cinco Ranch had been a working cattle ranch and rice farm on Buffalo Bayou which started in the 1930s when five families became partners in an outfit that they named Cinco Ranch. (Cinco means five in Spanish.) In 1984 a conglomerate known as the Cinco Ranch Venture, consisting of U. S. Home, the Mischer Corporation, and American General Corporation, purchased the property and began to develop a community. Eventually American General bought out the other partners.

Cinco Ranch is part of a 7,200-acre master plan designed by the developer Newland Communities and includes eight schools in the Katy Independent School District and additional private schools and preschools.

The subdivision's recreational facilities include a golf course, athletic centers, and ample greenspace for trails. In 2000 Cinco Ranch had a population of 11,196. Many of the residents commuted to Houston.

LaCenterra - If there's one place where you're likely to run into your neighbors, it's LaCenterra. The vibrant Main Street is a great venue to people watch (especially if you're sitting on a bench with a magazine).  Begin a weekly tradition of meeting friends for coffee on Saturday morning before shopping for fresh produce at the weekly farmers market.

Come make a day of it as you elevate shopping to an art form. Whatever your style, you'll find the latest fashions at diverse shops including White House/Black Market, Chico's, Sephora and Gymboree. Of course, you may have to take a break and recharge at your favorite restaurants such as Zoe's Kitchen, Fish City Grill, Perry's Steakhouse and Grill, and Kenzo Sushi Bistro. Then afterwards, on to more shopping.

The Lake House - With architecture inspired by historic Texas train depots, The Lake House is the crown jewel of the newest neighborhoods in the Cinco Ranch® community. Set along the banks of Spring Lake, the flexible meeting spaces can accommodate intimate gatherings and special events. In the summer months, parties will spill out onto the open verandas to enjoy cool breezes. In the winter, people can cozy around the outdoor fireplace singing songs or roasting marshmallows.

Residents can rent The Lake House for their special events - be it a wedding, family reunion, or child's birthday party.

CincoLife, a Cinco Ranch community organization, hosts lots of activities in The Lake House including bingo nights, yoga and Zumba classes, language classes and family art projects.

Fort Bend County Library - The Cinco Ranch® branch of the Fort Bend County Library, located in the Village Center shopping center, offers much more than just books. Check out their special story hours, activities, and reading clubs for kids. Go multimedia with music CDs and movies on DVDs. Or visit the computer lab for teleconferencing and distance learning. A central atrium and a wall of windows opening up to views overlooking the lake make this a cool place to hang out.

The Lake House Pool - Calling this wonderful attraction a mere swimming pool is something of an understatement. The Lake House pool is saline, which means it's healthier and more environmentally friendly than a chlorine pool. With a large pool, a splash pad, a children's pool, and two water slides, every member of the family is bound to be happy. Be sure to catch the Dive-In Movie series during the summer, brought to you by the Cinco Community Council. Just bring an inner tube, jump in, and get ready to watch your favorite aquatic-themed movie. (Sorry, no popcorn allowed in the pool!)

Children's Garden - Caterpillar. Chrysalis. Butterfly. Chances are, even if you don't know the lifecycle of a butterfly, your child does. This is just one of the things little ones will discover at the Children's Garden, a special place where kids are encouraged to use their imaginations, outside in the fresh air. Your nature experts can scramble over boulders and fallen timbers and even explore a dry streambed. It's an afternoon of wonder (and education), under a canopy of pines that will hopefully inspire a lifelong love of nature.

Tennis Courts - Channel your inner Agassi and enjoy a match at one of 17 tennis courts in the Cinco Ranch® community. You can even play at night after work, so there's no excuse not to get a game in. Court reservations are suggested and can be made online through the home owners association. If you're searching for some opponents, check out the tennis league association for some friendly yet competitive play.

The Water Park - Sure, almost every community has a pool, but the Cinco Ranch® community has aquatic adventures for every member of the family. How about two water slides that plunge down from a two-story tower for adrenaline thrills or a big pool, perfect for swimming or playing Marco Polo. And don't forget the special kiddie splash pool. This is a place where you can come to meet your friends, and your kids can see theirs. Summer is just one wet and wild time at Cinco Ranch. (Open only to Cinco Ranch residents and their guests)

Beach Club - Picture this: you're on a pale sand beach, surrounded by a half-acre, four-foot-deep swimming lagoon. The bright aquamarine waters sparkle in the sunlight, reflecting the warmth of a lazy summer afternoon. No, you're not on vacation in the Bahamas, you're at The Beach Club, your very own corner of the good life, set right on the shores of South Lake in Cinco Ranch®. (Open only to Cinco Ranch residents and their guests)

Say goodbye to your landlocked existence and set sail in a paddleboat or sailboat on South Lake. Even though you're not far from shore, you'll still feel like you're a million miles away. Or take the kids fishing along the water's edge and see if you can catch the big one. Don't worry; it's catch and release only.

The Golf Club at Cinco Ranch - In a perfect world, you would golf every day. But why wait for vacation The Golf Club at Cinco Ranch, owned by Evergreen Alliance Golf Limited (EAGL), is an 18-hole, par-71 daily fee course, highlighted with 50 sand traps and nine water hazards. As a Cinco Ranch™ community resident, you'll enjoy preferred tee times, greens discounts, and other perks.

Offering a brilliant emerald backdrop, The Golf Club at Cinco Ranch challenges the most skilled golfers while giving average and beginning players the opportunity to enjoy a memorable round. If you've passed your love of the game (okay, admit it, obsession) on to your kids, they can hone their talents at The Club's Junior Golf Academy.

Bayou Nature Trail - Go explore the wildest parts of your community. Get away from it all along the Bayou Nature Trail, which extends almost four miles through 70 acres of preserved woodlands and wetlands. Keep your eyes and ears open, along the way you might encounter birds, turtles, and more. In the near future, the Bayou Nature Trail will connect to the Buffalo Bayou Hike and Bike Trail, which will give Cinco Ranch® residents the opportunity to ride for 26 incredible miles.

Lakes - It's hard to travel through the Cinco Ranch® community without seeing glimpses of blue through the trees. A series of lakes both large and small dot the landscape, offering visual variety and recreational fun.

See Cinco Ranch from a different perspective from a kayak or paddleboat at South Lake. Who knows what you'll encounter. Those might be pirates over there in yonder sailboat. (Actually, they're just the teenage boys from down the street.) Of course, the adventure doesn't stop offshore. If you want to train for the annual Father's Day Fishing Tournament, simply drop a line and try your hand at fishing. You just might get lucky. But sorry, no fresh fish for your dinner, the waters of South Lake, Lake Pointe Park Lake, and Spring Lake are catch and release only.

Parks - Even though parks come in every shape and size in the Cinco Ranch® community, each one is a tranquil oasis. You can amble over to a small neighborhood pocket park and sit under a tree with a good book (or your laptop as pools and recreation centers are hooked up with wifi). Or you can head over to a major recreational center for swimming, tennis, soccer, or a picnic with friends. There is fun fo every member of the family at Rollingwood Park, pictured here.  Lakefront parks are located along Lake Pointe Park and the 14-acre South Lake, which offers fishing, sailing, and paddle boating for residents.
